The 2009 projected version includes several innovations which are mostly related to the engine, the experimental version uses a EA 888 engine which is more eco-friendly, this version has been developed in order to address issues related to power, fuel efficiency as well as emissions.
The B8 was first introduced to the market in September of 2007 and it was featured in the Frankfurt auto show, the Avant version was unveiled in the Geneva auto show in 2008.
Since the engine has been moved forward there is of course a better weight distribution so the front: rear weight ratio is of 45:55 respectively, the weight distribution also depends on the chassis that the buyer selects as well as the engine. In order to increase the legroom of the rear passengers the length of this vehicle has been increased about 12 cm.
Some of the standard features developed for the B8 include:
-- A multimedia interface which provides information to the driver and can also be used for entertainment purposes.
-- LED daylight running lights (available on the S-line)
-- Blind stop warning systems as well as a lane departure system
The engine selection varies and are available in five versions: a 1.8L (16 valve I4), 3.2L (24-valve V6), 3.0L (24-valve TDI V6) and 2.7L (24-valve TDI V6) -- it is also expected that future versions will use alternative fuels such as ethanol for those drivers who want to have a vehicle which leaves a smaller gas emission footprint.
