The jobs market is getting more and more competitive with each day that passes.  One of the most competitive sectors throughout the jobs market is the Graduate Jobs market.  The Graduate Jobs market has become increasingly competitive over the last decade or so and is currently one of the hardest areas in which you can try to gain employment within.

Although it is difficult to crack the graduate jobs market, it is certainly not impossible.  If you have gone through University or higher education, then you will have earned the qualifications that the employers are looking for.  What you will then need to do is apply yourself in the correct way during your application.

The first thing that you will need to do is to ensure that you have written a CV and covering letter which is appropriate to each job that you are applying for.  Many people will simply create one of each and then send that to as many employers that they possibly can.  This is not the ideal way of applying for jobs and should be avoided.  Instead you need to carefully look at the job description for each vacancy that you are applying for and ensure that the skills that are mentioned are fully covered in both your CV and covering letter.

The next thing that you should look to do is to establish contact with your potential new employers as soon as you possibly can.  This does need to be done within an appropriate time frame however and should be altered depending on your method of applying.  For example if you have applied for a position via e-mail, wait a few days before making a quick call.  During the phone call you can casually check to see if your application has been received, this will help you be remembered by an employer which can help you in your mission to be offered an interview.

So if you have created a high quality application and have followed it up with a phone call, there is now little more that you can do for this stage of the application process.  Unfortunately now it is a waiting game and you will need to sit tight before you receive a letter or a phone call inviting you to an interview.  If you are not one of the candidates to make it through to the next stage, don't give up and simply try again!
