Throughout your sales career it is more than likely that you will move around to a few different companies. People tend to move on to increase their salary and to broaden their experience throughout different sectors.
However some people do struggle to decide when the best time to move on is. This is because a move at the wrong time and under the wrong circumstances can certainly look bad on your CV and can even put you in a worse situation than what you were in.
The below are quite possibly the most common reasons why people tend to leave their sales jobs.
Firstly it is never leave a position quickly out of desperation. If your present work situation isn’t the best, you can nearly always hang on in there until you find the right position to move onto. If you can stick it out, do so and don’t just look for any available job.
You should also not quit your job unless you have another job to go to. Some people tend to do this to ensure they are available for job interviews and assessments. Some people tend to do this to ensure that they don’t feel any guilt as they won’t need to tell white lies or even call in sick in order to gain a new role. However there is a major draw back to this. If you are unemployed, potential employers will always question why you are and will perform heavy checks to make sure your telling the truth.
You should also not pack in your current job if you’re not performing well or if you’re going through a bad patch. It will benefit you more if you stick at it and turn your fortunes around. It is always better to attend an interview with something positive to talk about, most employers will want to know your current situation and may not be too keen about your success five years ago if you are struggling at the moment.
This may sound a little harsh, but what’s in the past is always in the past, unless you have a consistent and unblemished record. If you can turn around your sticky patch, make every effort to do so.
So there you have three reasons why people look to leave their current roles for pastures new. The above three are not ideal reasons for moving jobs and really you shouldn’t do so for them.
