Choosing your table image, take into account whether the table is loose or tight. Thus, if the table is tight, use tight image, and vice versa, on a loose table play loose image.
Note, we are talking about only image of your play, but not the way you really play. The rule to play tight on a loose table and loose on a tight table is still working here. Playing maniac does not mean to be one. You just want your opponents to think that of you. For instance, you will very rarely call down without having nuts or a premium hand.
On a tight table with tight image you may steal the blinds of the players who give up top pair thinking are tight. This image also gives you an opportunity to bluff as much as you want.
On a loose table with loose image you make your opponents think you are a weak stupid player. With players folding to your premium hands, a series of stupid calls and raising of some trash hands pre-flop will be effective. After this, they will be sure you do not want to win their money, but just to play.
If you know that some players can read you, it is best to use the crazy table image against them. Watching your every move, they will be surprised to find out that your strategy has no logic and your actions are unpredictable. Such a crazy image is especially useful in the long run.
Although using a certain table image is not always a necessity, it is better to have it in your arsenal of poker techniques as it can only improve your ability to win.
