Padraig Harrington has credited last year's Irish Open win with providing a boost going into the 2007 Open at Carnoustie - a tournament which provided him with a first taste of victory in a major. Harrington is hoping to hold on to his crown as the event gets underway at Adare today (Thursday, May 15th), with a large contingent of in-form Irishmen for the home crowd to follow. Graeme McDowell, Damien McGrane, Darren Clarke and Peter Lawrie have all taken titles on the European Tour this season, but the biggest backing could be reserved for Open champion Harrington. He told the Irish Examiner: "It does seem to suit me and I do like the golf course." Harrington continued: "I think it's a beautiful venue. The scenery and the set-up in terms of aesthetic value is really excellent. It's the style of the greens that suits me most." Colin Montgomerie is under pressure to perform in order to put himself in the frame for a spot in Nick Faldo's European team for September's Ryder Cup. Monty is currently ranked 88th in the world - his lowest placing for 18 years.
