At the moment all Formula One drivers are undergoing the pre season testing before the first Grand Prix event of the year - the Melbourne Circuit at Albert Park. This admirable event has been part of the professional racing calendar since 1985 but as of 1928 it has held many racing competitions in different categories.

Throughout the years; the Australian race has arose special interest among the spectators rising the attendance percentage each time. This year brings in new expectations in the Formula One races and Australia will be at centrefold due to factors such as: the controversy the sport faced over the past months and the recent changes in leading drivers most teams implemented based on the last championship results.

The 23-year-old British promise, Lewis Hamilton is indeed a driver who has excelled most if not all hopes the McLaren team has and during the most recent testing in Barcelona at the Circuit de Catalunya he continues to raise eyebrows reaching first place for a second day on a row with a timing of 1:21.234 followed by new team mate Kovalainen and Ferrari’s Raikkonen in third position.

On the other hand, we have Fernando Alonso a former McLaren’s driver who decided to part ways with the team after the liaison amongst them began to worsen due to rumours of preferences towards Hamilton despite being the second driver. Alonso managed a seventh fastest time leading Renault his new team. Another impressive timing not yet expected was that of the German Sutil of Force India which is a new team participating for the first time in the competitions.

In approximately two weeks at the Australian Grand Prix we will be able to witness what the new campaign will bring; defending champion Kimi Raikkonen is closely followed by Hamilton’s quick pace but both teams Ferrari and McLaren have presented powerful machines which promise a good show and a more equivalent competition to that of last year when there were so many doubts about the mechanical performances due to the espionage debate.

Let’s not forget Renault and BMW Sauber; these two teams need to be counted in the pursue of the title as their experienced drivers will do anything they can to achieve good positions and gain the most points for the championship. Many still believe the Alonso-Hamilton feud is not over yet and this will be carried out into this year’s races but Renault’s boss Flavio Briatore is convinced this was only the result of a positive rivalry which brought out the best of both drivers; he said Alonso himself stated many times it was not a Hamilton problem but a team problem. Therefore; it is now time to close that old chapter and await the new one which will be shortly written.
