Anger is an emotion that is mostly negative and many times it is an over reaction to a given situation. The word "anger" mostly conjures up a negative feeling inside of us. Maybe it puts your thoughts back to when you were a child and suffered under the anger of a parent or teacher. This could have been normal anger or aggressive anger that taught you to fear the person that was constantly angry with you. You learned to fear their rage and this influenced your whole life. It could be a spouse who tends to get angry about most things in the home that are not done exactly as he or she like it. This makes you nervous to be in this person's presence. You never know when something will trigger off a rage in your partner. Whatever the case, anger is always unpleasant when it is directed at you. It is the aggressive type of anger that drives people to over react to situations that need to be managed. I am speaking about the underlying emotion of an individual that is prone to anger and is just waiting to surface for the least reason and it does not take too much provocation to make him or her angry. If you are prone to this type of anger you need to learn how to control it or it could get you into serious trouble. ANGER AS A CONSTRUCTIVE EMOTION: There are times when anger can be a very good thing and should be expressed. If no one felt anger about their fellow man's suffering and the plight of the poor, what would happen to our world? What would happen to our wildlife and flora if no one cared enough about their plight to get angry and try to motivate people to do something about saving the situation? It is these people's anger that drives them to do something constructive to save the planet. They will attack the problems and motivate others to do the same. Anger that motivates you to protect yourself and your family when you are being attacked physically is the same thing. These are times when anger can be used to your advantage but you must remain in control of it. Anger will empower you to stand up for yourself when you are being ridiculed or criticised. You will be able to command respect from your peers in this way. All forms of anger are not destructive and this type of anger does not need controlling. ANGER MANAGEMENT - (LEARNING SELF CONTROL) What is anger management and why should it be managed? There is so much written about this subject and this phrase so often comes up in conversation that it must be something many people are having difficulty in managing. Self control is thinking before you act. It is consideration for others not to display your anger in their presence. By learning self control it gives you choices of how you can behave in public. You can behave in a dignified way instead of ranting and raving and putting people off wanting to be in your company. You will be drawing people to you instead of repelling them.
