Nearly 15 years ago, an Australian acupuncturist and chiropractor named Dr. John Veltheim developed the BodyTalk System. Body Talk is a comprehensive, dynamically-structured energy healing modality. The main premise behind the system is that healing is achieved by repairing compromised communication lines within the body. The aim of Body Talk is to help the body's various systems "talk" to each other and articulate their needs to the patient with clarity. To accomplish this, there is a thorough protocol of questioning and neuromuscular biofeedback used to identify and repair disconnects in the bodymind's communication channels.

The BodyTalk system is devised of principles that represent a new paradigm for synchronizing the "bodymind," which is how BodyTalkers refer to that undeniable connection between the body and the mind. BodyTalk can be implemented in conjunction with other health care systems, or it can stand alone as a comprehensive modality. Students of Body Talk recognize the body as a complex ecosystem that balances physiological functions, mental and emotional interactions, environmental influences, and hereditary restrictions. BodyTalk addresses the need to synchronize all of these factors into a singular cohesive whole.

Before the advent of BodyTalk and other modern energy healing methods, the majority of health care systems took a Cartesian approach, focusing on isolated parts rather than the entire bodymind equation. Until recently, it has been largely believed in Western medicine that incorporating all the variables of health into one big picture was impossible. This is because the human mind, even with the help of modern science, was thought to be incapable of thinking on such a comprehensive scale.

Currently, there are forty-seven trained instructors in Body Talk (New York City houses several of these masters) teaching the system to practitioners in 17 nations. To date, there are over 1,000 practitioners around the world, from a variety of backgrounds. Chiropractors, psychologists, medical doctors, acupuncturists, physical therapists, naturopaths, nurses, massage therapists, osteopaths and everyday people are included among the world's BodyTalk practitioners.

The success and proliferation of the Body Talk system can mostly be attributed to these factors:

- Positive results have occurred with BodyTalk in almost every sphere of heath care.

- BodyTalk can stand-alone or it can complement any other health care system.

- There are no diagnoses, no prescriptions, and no invasive techniques imposed upon the patient, ever.

- BodyTalk can be learned in a relatively short time. The basic instructional program for practitioners can be covered in under 40 hours of workshop time.

- There are no contraindications to BodyTalk's use.

- Patients enjoy BodyTalk sessions, and the results are evident within the mind, body, and spirit.
