Wallpapers are a fantastic way to liven up your desktop screen. Apart from just livening up your computer screen wallpapers can cheer you up and help you liven up an otherwise boring day. The only problem is that any old picture does not make a good wallpaper. Sure you can use any image as a wallpaper but more often than not there are problems like pixelization, distortion of the aspect ratio and more. If you are looking to download some quality wallpapers from the internet and have no idea how to choose the right wallpaper then don’t worry help is at hand.
Before you download and install any wallpaper, the first thing you need to do is find the resolution of your screen. Finding the resolution of your screen is a simple procedure; just right click on the desktop and the select the option that says properties. In the new window that pops up select the tab that says settings and the numbers below the slider are the resolution of your screen (usually something like 800x600). The above mentioned procedure is for windows operating systems only.
Once you know the resolution of your screen, all you need to do is download wallpapers that are designed for the same resolution. If you notice, on any wallpaper website, there is a small series of numbers mentioned below each wallpaper. These digits actually denote the screen resolution the wallpapers are designed for. So if your screen is set to screen resolution 800x600 just choose a wallpaper is designed for the same screen resolution.
If you have a monitor that is set to high resolution, the chances are that lower screen resolution wallpapers will only be displayed on a part of the screen, thus leaving visible gaps on the screen. The only option in this case is to ‘stretch’ the wallpaper to the resolution of your screen, only problem is that stretching a wallpaper causes distortion of the image and eventually spoils the whole effect of the screen saver.
Another thing to remember while downloading wallpapers is the method of distribution. Most wallpapers are displayed on the website and a user can simply right click on the image and set is as the desktop background. Sometimes wallpapers are also available in compressed files or executables, make sure that you have the required software to decompress the files or you might just end up downloading wallpapers you can’t use.
With so much variety available in terms of wallpapers, it has become increasingly important for people to understand the finer aspect of installing wallpapers. If you are looking to install a new wallpaper on your computer, make sure that you have the screen resolution in mind. Another aspect to keep in mind is the colour depth of the wallpaper, most wallpapers are not fussy about the colour depth your computer supports, however occasionally some wallpapers are available in rich colours. If this is the case you will know instantly if your computer cannot support the wallpaper as the colours will be off and the wallpaper will look out of place.
