Some precious moments that we come across only once in a lifetime like, the first baby you had or the very first step your baby takes to reach towards you, and for some the graduation day. All of us will want to save these precious moments of life to cherish for eternity. For those who have these precious moments of life on a VHS tape it is a scary though of losing them, as VHS tapes do not have a long life span even if not used for long periods.

I then vowed that I would convert the VHS tapes into DVDs so I could cherish them for a long time to come. Let me give you a few steps and tips that will help you convert VHS tapes to DVDs.

Things you will require to copy VHS to DVD: VHS player, Cable, Computer and DVD device.

Home movies are not copy protected so this does not pose any challenge for you to copy VHS to a DVD. However, movies that are protected will need a macro vision remover or stabilizer that will go in the video line between VCR and capture device to remove the copy guard so you can copy encrypted VHS to DVD.

The format is mostly stored in an AVI file format so you will need a converter to convert it to a proper DVD format before it can be burnt to a DVD, hence completing your process of copying an encrypted VHS to DVD. The DVD burning software will also usually convert the file to the required DVD format.

Before you begin the process to copy encrypted VHS to DVD you need to ensure that your computers hard disk has enough space to fit the converted format from VHS to DVD. Once you have the encrypted VHS data on your hard disk it cannot be straight away copied to DVD as the space taken and the format is still not something that is fit to be copied to a DVD.

Things you must keep in mind before you start: The results of the conversion will depend on the state of the VHS tape. Buy a high quality DVD for a longer life span. Ensure you have lots of free hard-disk space on your computer.

It may take a couple of hours to copy, for instance mine took at least three to four hours to complete copying the entire VHS tapes to the DVD. You can now share your special moments with your near and dear ones. So what are you waiting for? Pull out all those old VHS tapes so you can get the all renewed videos in DVD format.
