So, you may have a rough idea of how important a proper headline on eBay is to maximizing your sales potential, but what exactly makes a great headline? In order to understand what it takes to make an outstanding headline, you need to put yourself behind the keyboard of every potential customer, from the point they sign onto eBay's website, to the point where they “Buy it Now” or place a bid. Now, if you are selling something on eBay, and this prospective customer wants what you have, how will they get to your item? First, they will make a search. This search will scour through the huge database of entries and look for the precise word or words they searched for. This is the first, and most obvious aspect of a proper headline-it needs to be relevant and it needs to say what you are selling. One important thing to keep in mind is not to use symbols like "*" and "@" because these will throw off a search if the person searching does not type them in. So keep all the writing in plain, raw English.
Now that you have made it to the list of relevant items, you need a headline that will make this prospective buyer click on your listing! How can you make your headline better than the others in the list? You need to convince the buyer that there is something behind your listing they cannot afford to miss! This is accomplished by speaking to them, and their hunger for a great deal. For example, if you are selling bananas, you need to explain, in as few words as possible why your banana is the best for the price! Some powerful words that should be included in your headline are words such as gorgeous, perfect, amazing, rare, excellent, discover, instant, fast, free, exceptional, and opportunity. You need to use these types of words to make a sense of rarity and urgency to your particular listing.
Now, if you have made a headline that clearly states what you have to offer, in a tantalizing way, then you can benefit even more by allowing the "NR" or "no reserve" benefit. No reserve means you have a serious auction going on, and whoever bids the highest wins! This draws in people who would otherwise not be interested, simply because there is a possibility they will score an unbeatable bargain. Believe it or not, many times a no reserve auction travels far above normal expectations because of the heightened interest in your listing, and competition amongst bidders! When bidders compete, you win!
These are only a few of the issues you need to resolve when making a highly effective eBay headline. You will know when your headline has reached perfection when the hits roll in. Do your homework, and reap the benefits of increased sales and profits.
