Copper is an independent metal but cannot be used independently since its very spongy and soft. The copper has to be used along with other metals such as brass and iron ore, which is used to make it strong and sturdy. Copper is at its best when used as an alloy consisting other metals, bringing some new features and qualities within it. Most of the copper that is supplied and sold in the U.S is the alloy C12200, which contains small proportions of phosphorus. This gives it a new quality as it makes it quiet easy to braze and weld. But unfortunately it makes it less conductive too.
Copper mixed and combined with some small amount of tellurium improves its ability; where it can be used further to make copper sheets or copper chips. Pure copper alloy would always be gummy and sticky, but it's this metal known as tellurium, which combined with it makes it firm. The C11000 is what we call pure copper which is pure up to 99.99 per cent. Pure copper is an excellent heat conductor as well as an electric conductor.
One would be surprised that copper mixed with zinc gives us brass, which is considered to be another good quality alloy, used in many other manufacturing products. The word temper is associated with the hardness or the rigidity of an alloy or metal. The Copper Association of U.S.A has rated pure copper as H01 which is considered very soft, while the association has rated copper alloy with H04, which is considered better than pure copper.
Textured copper sheets are considered ideal for those high traffic areas because of their high resistance and ability to survive destruction and damage. The texturing processes of these copper sheets increase its strength as compared to its weight, what we call the strength to weight ratio. These features reduce its maintenance costs, along with enhancing its overall exterior.
Hammered copper sheets are mostly used in making doors, counter tops, sink and bar tops. It's the warmth and the finish of these plates that make it popular among all the other alloys. Currently there are several other textures and colors that are available in these copper sheets. Another great feature which adds to its widespread use is that these hammered copper sheets are available in a great variety of sizes all across the U.S.
